The Place of Peace
In 1988, Aman opened its first-ever resort on a hillside above Pansea Beach in northwest Phuket. More than three decades later, Amanpuri remains the standard against which all Thai luxury is measured. The name means "Place of Peace" in Sanskrit — and the experience delivers on every syllable.
Thirty-five Thai Pavilions cascade down a coconut-palm-forested hillside to a private beach framed by two rocky headlands. Thirty private Villas — each with its own pool — sit within walking distance of the sea. Designed by Ed Tuttle, Amanpuri's architecture is a masterclass in restraint: open-sided spaces, polished concrete, teak, and an absence of anything unnecessary.
The resort operates its own fleet of sailing vessels, speedboats, and a Cessna Citation aircraft. Three restaurants span the hill from beach to treetop. The Aman Spa occupies a dedicated two-storey pavilion.
